They were definitely on IMDb. I remember on the board of one host of a tv show (I forget who) the host's "brother" would post. I always assumed the "brother" was him.

I live in Los Angeles/Hollywood and know many people lower down on the ladder of the film industry. IMDb was a major resource for them. I have no doubt that industry people checked the site. This is one reason I think IMDb made a mistake eliminating the boards. They did have enormous influence on the industry.

But back to the question, I have no doubt that thousands of actors, especially the no-so-famous ones, checked their boards weekly if not daily.
