He sometimes overdid it with bland fare like Toys, Patch Adams, etc., but yes, I say he was a good actor both in drama and comedy. His performances in Dead Poets Society, Awakenings, The Fisher King, as the Genie from Aladdin, The Birdcage, Insomnia, One Hour Photo and even Death to Smootchy showed his versatility.
