He was wonderful and hilarious when on a high. Genie is the single greatest character in Disney animated history. In live-action works, his performances were often surprisingly touching. So I guess my answer is yes on both counts. He was a great actor and a very, very funny guy. Do you think Will Smith is going to do better? I love Will Smith and am glad he secured the role - even though I'm not too keen on a lot of the movies he appears in. I do believe he'll do a good job, but I can't imagine him surpassing Robin Williams. That performance can't be topped. It's not an issue for me, however, since I'm quite happy to see Smith do something a little different with the role. I definitely don't want to see a straight-forward by-the-numbers remake of the 1992 film. |
