THUNDERBALL (1965) 4/5.
A British spy film and the fourth in the JAMES BOND film series produced by Eon Productions. The screenplay is by John Hopkins, Richard Maibaum and Jack Whittingham, which is based upon a story by Ian Fleming, Kevin McClory and Jack Whittingham, which in turn is based upon THUNDERBALL, the ninth in Ian Fleming's book series and the eighth full-length JAMES BOND novel. The film soundtrack is by John Barry, the film is produced by Kevin McClory and it’s directed by Terence Young.
THUNDERBALL stars Sean Connery as James Bond, Claudine Auger as Dominique "Domino" Derval, Rik Van Nutter as Felix Leiter, Bernard Lee as M, Desmond Llewelyn as Q, Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny and Adolfo Celi as Emilio Largo. The film also features Luciana Paluzzi, Martine Beswick, Paul Stassino, Guy Doleman Molly Peters, Roland Culver, Philip Locke, Rose Alba, Leonard Sachs, George Pravda, Edward Underdown, Earl Cameron and Anthony Dawson as Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
This time, James Bond's mission is to find two NATO atomic bombs stolen by SPECTRE - SPecial Executive for Counterintelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion - which holds the world to ransom for £100 000 000 in diamonds, in exchange for not destroying an unspecified major city in either the United Kingdom or the United States. THUNDERBALL is an enjoyable adventure film that stills manages to stay quite accurate to the source material.
