What do atheists believe happens to you when you die?

I don't know.  I believe our consciousness lasts longer than people might've thought before.  Hours...maybe even days, who knows?  I don't THINK the human consciousness lasts for eternity, however I don't know what, exactly, consciousness is so can't be sure of anything.  I think the human body dies and decomposes.  IF the human consciousness is inextricably linked to and dependent on the physical body, then eventually, a human consciousness will also fade and be gone...like the light from a distant star will eventually be gone if the star stops producing light.   But if the consciousness is of some other composition and not totally dependent on the physical brain/body, then it might somehow be freed from the body and last indefinitely.
