Just think if the US government would have it's way the death total would have been millions and new York City would be nothing but a nuclear wasteland. The nuke still destroyed a large incoming fleet in space. The Avengers got lucky they closed the portal at the last second. If they hadnt and the portal remained open then nukes where the only alternative and the government would've been forced to take that chance. Considering the Teseract was opening the portal to another Universe (Dr. Selvg), it's safe to say without the nuke and just closing it would've taken a while for the Chitari to get there. Black Widow could've closed the portal before the Nuke was detonated. Closing the portal and capturing the Teseract is the win. Pushing a Nuke through it was just icing on the cake. If the World Security Council wasn't run by Hydra. (Gideon Malick, played by Powers Boothe in Avengers/ AoS and Pierce) then the Council probably wouldn't have been so ruthless on sacrificing NY. |
