These things aren't too surprising anymore. Guardians of the Galaxy outgrossed all of the X-Men movies nobody would have expected that. Deadpool outgrossed The Amazing Spider-man movies, nobody would have expected that. Black Panther actually made more money than Infinity War domestically, if you'd have told people that a year ago you'd be seen as crazy. At this rate it wouldn't be a surprise if Aquaman outgrosses Batman vs Superman and Spider-man Into the Spider Verse outgrosses Spider-man Homecoming. You never know what to expect anymore. Some of this can be explained away somewhat easily.
Spiderman, Batman, and the X-Men are all somewhat played out; especially when compared to other characters who haven't had a movie yet.
Deadpool, for whatever reason, is an extremely popular and well-liked character. Given that he's never had a movie before and that it was rated R, it was something of a perfect storm. That movie was practically guaranteed to make a ton of money.
And in some cases, the cost of going to a movie has simply gone up. Movies make more now than ever. It's not even difficult for a bad movie with an established franchise's name attached to it to make hundreds of millions of dollars. There was a time where if you had 100 million that was a big deal.
Nobody else will say it, but I will – Black Panther made a lot of money because black people went out in droves to see it. They saw it multiple times too. There were people who didn't even care about the MCU I went and saw it and told themselves it was the greatest movie ever seen.
