Just curious. What things would Abrams have to promise, and what things would have to be in the trailers in order to restore your faith in Star Wars? Just for the record, I’m not crazy excited about this movie myself, even though I actually didn’t mind TLJ, but that’s mostly because I feel like there aren’t really many other directions to go in. To be clear I am going to see this movie. It's still Star Wars. A bad Star Wars movie is better than most sci-fi movies. However I am less excited about this than I have been for any SW movie, other than maybe Solo (which I didn't hate).
My hopes have been the same since TFA. Answers. Answers to the questions set up in TFA. If you promise a Zig, don't Zag! Zagging is all that TLJ did.
We wanted Rey to be someone, so they turned her into no one. We wanted to find out about Snoke, so they killed him. We wanted to see the Knights of Ren, so they didn't show them or refer to them at all. It looked like Kylo might turn good, but instead he turned worse. We wanted Luke to come back, save the day and kick some ass, so they turned him into a curmudgeonly hermit. He wasn't even what Yoda was to him in ESB!
It's kinda like they went down the line and said "What will the fans want? Instead lets say fuck you and give them the opposite! That'll be artistically cool! Yeah lets do that!"
As far as trailers... I don't think that's going to do it. I think only the movie itself will do the trick at this point. It better be good. But I wouldn't mind seeing the Knights of Ren in cool lightsaber action. That might help. Luke NOT as force ghost, but rather perfectly alive and healthy might be good too, but they'll have to tread carefully to make me accept it at this point.
