Here is my recap and analysis of Week 13’s games
Chargers defeat Steelers 33-30. Impressive comeback win on the road for the Chargers, it shows they can win in a big game and compete with top tier teams, they have a very talented team and are a threat in the AFC. 3rd subpar performance in a row from the Steelers, they are falling, they need to turn things around soon as they are playing very average all around right now, I don’t have a lot of confidence in them.
Patriots defeat Vikings 24-10. Nice win for the Pats, Brady with a great game and their defense shut down the Vikings. They are the best all around team in the AFC IMO, they have a great defense and their defense is underrated and is playing very well, they are having a great season once again and are definitely Super Bowl contenders. The Vikings have been disappointing, they rely too heavily on the pass on offense and their defense has played soft all season and their secondary is banged up, they are right in the NFC playoff race but they need to play stronger defense and establish a stronger rushing attack if they want to be a threat in the playoffs.
Buccaneers defeat Panthers 24-17. Good win for the Bucs, Winston is trying to prove he should be the franchise QB there and he is playing well right now, the Bucs have a good offense and their weak defense forced some TO’s in this game which got them the win. The Panthers are collapsing and they have reason to be concerned, their subpar secondary is hurting them and their offense doesn’t have as many weapons as a lot of other top tier teams have, they are right in the playoff race but they have to turn things around.
Rams defeat Lions 30-16. Rams clinch the NFC West and sit atop the NFC, they have one of the most talented teams in the NFL and are Super Bowl contenders and they have a good shot at getting the 1 seed in the NFC IMO. The Lions haven’t played up to their potential, they have talent but they’ve had a weak season, it will be interesting to see what they do in the offseason.
Ravens defeat Falcons 26-16. Ravens win their 3rd straight game behind Jackson, he’s given their offense a spark and should remain their QB IMO, and they have one of the NFL’s best defenses, they are in a good position in the AFC playoff picture. The Falcons season was derailed by injuries and they are deflated now, this was their second lifeless performance in a row, they need to focus on improving for next season.
Texans defeat Browns 29-13. The Texans have won 9 in a row and are the NFL’s hottest team, they have a top tier defense, they forced 3 INT’s in this game, and their offense has a solid balanced attack and Watson is having a good season, the Texans aren’t getting much attention but they are a threat in the AFC. The Browns are much improved but still need to improve in several areas before they can compete.
Giants defeat Bears 30-27. Good win for the Giants, Barkley single handily makes them competitive and they have enough talent to occasionally beat good teams but they have a lot of rebuilding to do before they can contend for the playoffs. Not a good outing for the Bears, Chase Daniel sucks and they need Trubisky back badly, and while their strong defense makes them a threat in the NFC, their lack of weapons at receiver is a concern IMO.
Jaguars defeat Colts 6-0. Jags finally win with strong defense like they did last season, and they made the right call in benching Bortles who has blown chunks all season, Kessler was better, but it’s too late now to make any difference. Terrible loss for the Colts, they laid a massive egg, their schedule down the stretch isn’t easy and they needed to win this game, but they just choked, it sets them back in the playoff race.
Dolphins defeat Bills 21-17. The Fins are in the AFC playoff race and they are playing much better with Tannehill back, but I’m just not sure if they have enough talent on either side of the ball to get a Wild Card slot. The Bills are much more competitive with Allen back, but they have a lot of rebuilding to do before they can become competitive.
Titans defeat Jets 26-22. Titans pull out another close win and remain right in the AFC playoff race, they are an interesting team, they aren’t great at any position but they aren’t bad at any either, but I don’t think they have enough to get to the playoffs, it will be interesting to see how they play down the stretch though. The Jets are much better than they were last season but they are in rebuilding mode.
Seahawks defeat 49ers 43-16. Seahawks are having a good season, they’ve established a strong rushing attack and Wilson is playing very well, and their defense is still decent despite not having nearly as much talent as they did in the past, the Seahawks are right in the NFC playoff race. The Niners are just waiting for 2019 when Garappolo returns.
Cardinals defeat Packers 20-17. Good win for the Cardinals who are rebuilding, I think they have their franchise QB in Rosen, they just need to rebuild around him. Packers fire McCarthy after this loss, it’s been a very disappointing season for them, they should have a better record with the outstanding Rodgers at QB, they are looking to start fresh with a new coach and I think it’s the right move.
Chiefs defeat Raiders 40-30. Chiefs with a strong offensive outing in the wake of the Hunt disaster, they have the AFC’s top record but their average defense is somewhat of a concern for me, still they are Super Bowl contenders. The Raiders are in total rebuilding mode and hope to compete when they move to Vegas.
Broncos defeat Bengals 24-10. The Broncos are contending for a Wild Card slot in the AFC as well, they have some talent on both sides of the ball and I’m very impressed by their RB Lindsay who had another good game but I don’t think they will make the playoffs. The Bengals are mediocre once again and are done for this season and it’s time to fire Lewis but who knows if they will, they’ve been mired in mediocrity for years.
Any thoughts?
