Uh it's right there in the story the OP linked, some Christian organization called the Illinois Family Action was complaining about it. If it was a cross being displayed, somehow I doubt they would complain.

Actually, the Family Action group isn't complaining about the presence of the display at all:

"Satanic Temple monument was added to the #Illinois Capitol rotunda displays. They fail to realize that the little baby in the manger has CRUSHED Satan's head and the gates of hell will NOT prevail."

That statement is merely taunting the Satanists, "My god can beat up your god".
