That's a reeeeeal stretch, but you can say 'hall of fame talent' instead if it makes you feel better. With the possible recent exceptions of Gronk, Ertz, Kelce, and like two seasons worth of Jimmy Graham, what tight end makes or break a game? Tony Gonzalez caught a million balls that added up to jack shit. What impact did Jason Witten have? Gates was a good player but his real impact was minimal. Having Witten made Romo a significantly better player. When you have that sort of reliability it takes a lot of pressure off of you, especially in 3rd down situations. But it doesn't really matter. Antonio Gates is a hall of fame player. That's better than not having great players around you. The insistence that Eli had better teams around him and succeeded because of them, and Rivers carried his mediocre offenses on his back, especially early on, is absurd.
