Guys, don't hate, but this by far my least favorite console generation. We'd just lost Sega as a hardware manufacturer and were suddenly stuck with leviathans Sony, Microsoft, and poor Nintendo, who'd suddenly become the Weird Kid despite being synonymous with the industry for the past twenty years. And everyone just bought a god damn PS2 for the "free" DVD player despite it having the longest load times, the shittiest graphics by far, and the fact that Sony just steamrolled the entire video game market with PSone using salt-the-earth Wal Mart business tactics and leveraging their multiple divisions over honest/actual companies like Sega. So FUCK fucking PS2 and everything it represents, which is basically video games becoming mainstream trash for morons. On the other hand, GameCube's library was terrible and Xbox was a clunky mess. I call for a vote of No Confidence in all three of them. I know that, to people of a certain age, this was some kind of holy trinity, but to me it was the point past which I never cared as much about games/gaming again despite disinterestedly owning a 360 a few years later. Around 2014, I got the retro bug and bought myself a NES, a Genesis (with 32x and CD add-ons), a Saturn, and a Dreamcast, along with a 360 and an Xbox One. The era in question is conspicuous by its absence. Innit? Because fuck all three. I was mostly on the PC that day cause "consoles are for children and their moms". But I hypocritically bought a Cube because it supported some exclusive games (mostly StarWars and the Zeldas) I could not afford not to play. Looking back, I consider the library of the Cube "mandatory supplemental", not terrible.
