I would have to guess that there still remains a deep stigma against the DCEU that remains entrenched among critics. Meanwhile the MCU has this stuff down to a science so well that it's probably easy to say "Oh yea it's good. Go see it." Like clockwork. Meanwhile, even though Aquaman is getting generally positive reviews, the enthusiasm is comparatively more lukewarm due to that stigma and the DCEU still trying to find its footing in light of all the shakeups behind-the-scenes. Perhaps that bled into reviews that cite the messy storytelling. Or maybe sometimes a few critics are just being dicks as thisguy4000 shared. I think a big part of it is that MCU movies, even the worst ones, have a fairly cohesive story and have a pretty good pace. All of their storylines seem to flow well (even though I sometimes have issues with what is being told in the story) and their pacing is neither too sluggish nor too busy. In comparison, every single DCEU movie I've seen sans Wonder Woman have had this disjointed feel. Like I was flitting from scene to scene instead of flowing through them. Then there are long stretches where nothing of note happens and then other times it's pure action that seems to drag a bit too long. I think the main difference between the MCU's mid to low range offerings and a movie like Aquaman is that the MCU movies are easier for critics to give a 6 to. MCU turds are far more polished.
