Speaking of hypocrisy, all you anti-Marvel guys complain about Marvel movies being too flashy, too silly etc. But when DC does it it's a masterpiece.
EXACTLY! I find it endlessly amusing yet pathetic at the same time.

Also, I always thought the main criticism of MCU looks was that the movies fall chromatically flat with a formulaic greyscale color grading….? (personally never cared about that) And the other one was that they are formulaic and childish…? (so true)
But if you feel like a victim again, pls point out on the Aquaman doll where the evil DC fanboys touched you.

I haven't really had a complaint with most MCU movies look. Seems it's bright when it should be and darker when it should be.
As for the gritty look and fell I'm all for it if the it fits the plot/story. The reverse is true too. If the story/plot calls for hyper-color I'm all for it. Muted/Gritty is perfect for say Watchmen (or parts of Sucker Punch) I think it was misued in MoS and BvS, but that's just me. It worked for WW in WW1 London/Europe and is juxtaposed nicely vs Themyscira.
Same with X1 should've been gritty feel considering how it starts. I think as the movies went on being more colorful/flashy would've helped. (save for the Future Dsytopian Scenes in DoFP and DP2. Although I think my only complaint about First Class would be for it to embrace more 60's funk. )
Here with Aquaman the flash suits the story and fantastical location. I think the only thing I would've changed is make the Fishing Village and Light house more drab and dark. Especially after Queen Atlanna left, the memories/flashback should've had the bright light of nostalgia. Present should've been felt more hostile and dark. It's a small complaint, but I think it would've worked better.
I know you probably didn't mean Gritty in the actual sense it just got me thinking.
