Is Transformers going the way of the X-Men franchise?

By that I mean, is the franchise going to officially be at a point where the studio will claim that everything is still in one continuity, despite the blatant contradictions from movies like Bumblebee? Granted, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but from the sounds of it, the film is apparently in the odd position of both acknowledging and blatantly contradicting the previous films, and as far as I know, the people who made the film are trying to pass it off as a prequel. I’d be lying if I said that the whole thing didn’t call to mind what Fox did with X-Men: First Class.
