When did I say it was a surprise? It's not a surprise at all. If anything is a surprise it's why they didn't exploit Home Alone sooner.

Pandering/fan service is not anything new when it comes to selling a product and making money. Why do you think movie studios make late-arriving sequels, prequels, sequels, reboots, unnecessary remakes, etc. to old movie franchises?

I already know all this. Star Wars was ruined because of this very reason.
