That was discussed in specific threads ad nauseam already. US-domestic yes, in foreign markets Aquaman has already far surpassed most DC films, and has crossed USD 500M.
Reasons for US domestic are it's a relatively unknown IP, the December month and that the competition is strong. Amazingly, it's still doing great: it's leading several times ahead before Transformers, Mary Poppins (!) and others such as Spiderman (an A-lister). Maybe there is a JL aftertaste factor too, but unlikely.
December traditionally fields smaller opening weekends that can lead to long runs at the box office as moviegoers have time off between Christmas and New Year’s. When looking at end-of-the-year releases, “Aquaman” actually ranks among the best launches except “Star Wars” saga films.
And no, it's not better than almost all DCEU, but that's opinion.
