During This Time Of Year, Why Do We Generally Tend To Look Forward With Hope That The New Year

.....will be better than the year just passed, which we are (almost) always glad to see going ??   


Does it EVER work the other way around (in other words, that we're sorry to see a particular year ending, and NOT looking forward to the new one starting) ??
