Got my first kid coming in May. I'm trying to convince my wife to use a comic-inspired name. So far my suggestions were Gotham for a boy, Thorin for a girl. She liked Kal-el for a boy but we already have a friend who did that. Any suggestions?
I cant think of anything more corny and narcissistic. Do your child a favor and name them something normal. And don't spell it some wrong ass way but still pronounce it the same as it always has been (for example don't spell it Macques when its just Max!). And for gods sake don't do BOTH at the same time because then I will find you, kill you, take your child, rename them, and raise them better than you could.
I too have a friend who named their son Kal El. I laugh at that child all the time. ALL the time. And more behind his back. Naming your child after Superman...Really?! Only naming them after Jesus fricking Christ could it be worse! I've known one of them too. Ugh! What's wrong with people? Nicholas Cage named his son Kal El. That makes me laugh. Kal El Cage...
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAA!!!
Also take into consideration what people will nickname your child. Peers hardly ever use full names. Names almost always boil down to nicknames. William will almost always boil down to Bill or Will. What the hell will Gotham boil down to? Goth?! Got?! Go!? What?! Don't fuck that kids life up. Don't do it. Be better. Resist the urge.
When your child grows up he'll be all like "What the fuck were they thinking?! Did my parents like cities?! We didn't even live in one! I fucking hate Batman! And my sisters name is Thorin for fucks sake! Thorin! Who the fuck names a girl some shit like Thorin?! What is this, Lord of the Rings?!!!"
Y'know what, I got one for you! Name him Metropolis! If you're gonna do some dumb shit might as well go ALL IN! They'll nickname him Metro!!! This is one I hope your wife wins. For your child's sake! I'm thinking about the children here!!!
In all seriousness though, don't do it. The child's name is not a toy to play with. This is going to be their life.
And congratulations. I hope you have a healthy, happy child.
