I agree if we had to compare Ledger's to all of BP he would deserve it over BP. I never said it did over him. I just said that his nomination and win wasn't 100% merit. NO movies nomination or win is based strictly on merit.
It's just my personal opinion, which has nothing to do with the other opinion that more than merit is considered, that no superhero/comicbook movie has deserved a main Oscar. Those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive. I don't think he deserved a Nomination. I also don't think that most of the academy thought he didn't and only voted on it because he died.
I'm saying that I didn't think it deserved. I'm pretty sure a lot of academy members thought he did, but his death being framed/given scope highlighted the performance. Making even more people think he deserved it. I just don't agree. He was close but no cigar.
I never meant to imply that that was the sole factor and the Academy was giving him a pity fuck because he died. I was just saying that that was just one factor out of many.
That's not an opinion I would argue. It matches mine. I just don't go touting that my Opinion is the truth. I feel TDK hands down is superior to Black Panther. I think Logan is closer in quality to Black Panther , but still beats it by large margin. I have some problems with Logan, but I can appreciate the movie's Quality. I can appreciate the quality of God Father 1 and 2, but I would never call them any of my favorites. Rewatch-ability is hands down to Logan.
What is your definition of Acclaimed and that of Prestigious? I gave you Websters . By the definition of the 2 words yes GotG and Iron-man is more prestigious and acclaimed. Without changing the dictionary definition of the word tell me how Winter Solider is more Acclaimed and Prestigious than GoTG and Iron-Man. Was Winter Soldier higher rated by audiences? Was Winter Soldier given more Acclaim and Respect by Critics? Did Winter Soldier earn more nomination/wins for awards?
So your definition of CONFIRMED is an article that is speculating with the limited data we have? They have a question mark in the title and the first sentence says "AVENGERS 4 Endgame’s trailer seems to tease time travel to reverse Thanos’ Snap in Avengers Infinity War."
Again the only people who can confirm that time travel is in the movie are: The Writers, Actors, Execs, and people who have seen the movie. And even if they confirm it doesn't mean it's true. The Russo's said that End Game wasn't the title. The actors shot multiple scripts/scenes, The Russo's also put misinformation in the IW trailer. Hulk fighting in Wakanda and Thanos fighting Captain America with only 2 stones. How can we trust anything about what the movie will be and what will be confirmed if you can't trust the Trailers or The Russos?
I love Back To the Future, but the fading/dying was never suspenseful for me. The only thing that was suspenseful was what changes he made to the time line.
Dude you have to be kidding. How is the ending to series of movies the ending to all the movies? So if I've never seen Logan or Days of Future Past and was just fixing to watch them, but was nervous if I would like DoFP ending being sad. If I asked you go ahead and spoil the ending to DoFP for me and Just DoFP. If you agreed would you say "Logan dies at the end and his clone daughter recites Shane at his grave?" or would you say "Logan saves the day, changes the past which erases much of X3."
Words have meanings. The end of DoFP is the end of DoFP. The end of Logan is the end of Logan. And we don't know if New Mutants takes place in the main universe or if it's before or after the events of Logan. If it's not then the end of the Series is sad, but not the end of the previous movies because of the last one.
Dude that tact won't work for me. Barring X3, Origins, and Apocalypse I love or like the other X-men Movies. I'm not some blind MCU Fan that thinks every MCU movie is better than any comicbook movie.
Again learn Opinion vs Fact. Anybody I name as Complex and 3d as Mystique would just be my opinion. Just like it's your Opinion that Mystique is Complex and 3D. It would be Opinion vs Opinion.
The layers of Mystique in the First Class generation of Xmen films. Abandon child who hates she's a mutant who comes to grips with her difference. Broken by losses she goes down a path of evil, but is saved by mercy. Consigned to fight for those who are different to the detriment to her soul finally comes to grip with what it means to be Mutant and Proud. A lesson that she thought she understood what it meant after her epiphany in FC. She finally understands the true nature of being proud of ones self viscerally. After taking that lesson truely to heart instead of fighting for people who are different she teaches others how to fight and be proud. Did I get that about right? The complexity and 3 dimension-ness isn't even because of Jennifer's performance. It would be the Writing. Writing creates character complexity and dimension. The actress has to just portray that naturally. You could have the worst actor in the world give a performance of the most complex character in the world and the character would still be complex. You could have the best actor in the world portray the least complex character ever written and unless he changes the dialogue, setting, action, etc he couldn't make the character more complex.
Another reason we know about her complexity is we have seen an Arc of hers going from teenager to adult woman. This doesn't paint the MCU in a good light you are right.
All that said even with her bad performance in DofP and Apocalypse her writing has given her a big arc and their isn't one to match in the MCU.
LIke I said early I didn't read anything that puts her in the spotlight or anecdotally from people all over. I wouldn't say her inbetweenness is the cause of the complexity but the talent of the writers making her arc long and twisted.
BTW I think Jennifer Lawrence is a great actor. Like me and charzhino were talking about a bit ago I think the grueling nature of the makeup started the decent. In the beginning her being young and willing to put up with it helped her performance in FC. After she blew up she got more disenchanted with he movies and the character. I forgot when he said the downward spiral started, but I think we agreed it started in DoFP I don't want to put words in his mouth tho.
Yup, I'm not ashamed of liking IW. And I had more enjoyment and emotional response to it than DoFP. The pay off was better. I like how IW is really Thanos' story. I like how it ended on a series of down notes.
James Cameron who loved avengers? and was quoted as such?
In the end it's just your opinion that DOFP is Better. You can't prove a subjective stance as objective. You aren't the de facto judge of movies who opinions are facts.
Who called it the best since was it a critic? Do those count only when you agree with them? Was it just someone else in the business? I would like to talk to de facto Judge of Movies out there who's opinions are facts if it's not you.
who called one of the worst movies of the year? Was it a critic that you agreed with? Do only those critics count? Seems you had a problem with me using the respect they gave to GotG and Iron-man when you didn't agree. Does Acclaim only count when critic agrees with you?
Woah you have quotes from filmmakers that hated IW. Can you post the lot here I'd like to see them. So are they the de facto judge that their opinions get spun into golden facts?
So audience don't count when they acclaim and praise movies you don't like, but when they agree with you they count?
So we can all get it straight tell us the rules succinctly.
When do critics, filmmakers, audience scores count and when they don't.
So Ledger on 50% merit. Black panther on 0% merit. Sounds accurate.
Notice your personal opinions are trying to make mcu look good when mcu are deemed awful on the world of film artistry?
I'm going to need a citation for this statement. For something to be deemed awful on that big of stage it should be easy to find. There are 10,000's of people in the World of Film Artistry. If it's so wide spread that the MCU is decried as awful it would have to be at least half the people in and around the world of film. I wouldn't even ask for that much. How about a citation showing 1% of these people. Lets say a conservative estimate of people in that world, actors, directors, writers, producers, lights, cinematographers, camera, makeup, fx, not to mention journalists and critics would be around 50,000 world wide. So 500 examples should be easy to find.
Acclaimed and prestigious is something seems of good intellect, something that merits respect, something that is taken seriously, something most honest person can agree on. Something that adds values to things, Something that is usually brought to make sounds arguments. Check your mcu. They don’t match that. They are seen as dumb fun entertainment . Reason I said MCU fans like to argue with winter solider.
Question how do you quantify your abstract definitions for acclaim and prestigious.
Ah..so another mcu fan with wait and see. Funny many Nolan fans did not need to wait and see to know interstellar will have some time and space travel based on things like plot synopsis and events. Time travel is obvious of end game. What is more obvious is the movie will stink.
Of course I am going to wait and see. We've had one trailer. There's not enough data to even fairly speculate yet. I speculate now it might be Time Travel or Dimension/Multivers Hopping which kind of result in the same thing. The big question here is you said Confirmed. Words have meanings. The link you used as your proof of Confirmation had a question mark in title and in the first sentence used the verb seems. This is not confirmation. That is speculation on a very small sample size. The only people who can confirm time travel is the Writers, Directors, Actors and people who have seen it. As none of them have spoken about it. It hasn't been confirmed.
And with the Russo's and Marvel Studios Track record even official confirmation is subject to skepticism. The Russo's straight up said that the title of the the 4th movie wasn't said in any MCU movie. And End Game was used at least 2 times. In AoU and Infinity War. Also The trailer can't be trusted. The Studios intentionally put Hulk in the woods running with the avengers in Wakanda for IW. This wasn't in the movie and was a fake out. When Thanos is tying to crush Captain America they intentionally only put 2 stones on the gauntlet.
Don't take this the wrong way because I'm not trying to be mean but is English your first language? With the misspelling, grammar issues, and not using the proper definition of words some times I wonder. It's not bad if it is or isn't I was just curious.
Meh, I don’t buy you loving back to future,. Clearly not as much as mcu movies if not you will not have lied about it to defend the awfulness of infinity war. Marty fading away was a classic stand out. Freaky. Anyone that dismiss that and tries to defend the nonsense of infinity war is a joke
I saw Throw Mama from the Train, Kindergarten Cop, Abyss, Back to the Future, Crocodile Dundee, Flight of the Navigator, Short Circuit, Alane Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold, Romancing the Stone, Rocky 4 each like 30 times a pop.
Hell I've driven a Delorean. It was just in a mall parking lot but it still counts.
I used to have 2 great collections. (I tend to collect things, recently its novels, ancient video games, old computers, etc) The 2 collections that started me off was 1:18 scale diecast cars and Magic the Gathering. I started both while running a nerd store back in my college days. The diecast were all movie/pop culture related. I had 2 BTTF Deloreans one with Mr. Fusion and the Wild West one. Never could snag the first movies diecast. I had: Dragula, Mystery Machine, General Lee, Knight Rider, Ecto 1, Christine, Mach 5, F and and 2 differnt Batmobiles. I'm forgetting a ton of them. My Magic the Gathering rare collection was even better. I had every dragons from Unlimited's to 8th edition Core Set and Dark Steel expansion. The Unlimited Shivan Dragon alone was worth 250 Bucks. The Portal Zodiac Dragon english version was worth like 200. Not to mention the duel lands I had from Unlimited. All told those lands were worth around 1200 bux. My then girlfriend in 2004 now ex-wife. Got into a jam with medical bills and was going to be evicted. So I had to sell them quick. If I piecemealed them out I probably could've gotten $500 for the diecast and $6500 for the Magic cards. I couldn't so I took a hit on both. I got around 40% for the diecasts and 30% for the Magic cards. How does the WAFFLE repay me? 5 years later after we were married she cheated on me with my middle brother. (the one I don't talk about) She then left me for him. It's surprising the Stripper I dated before my Ex wife had more morals than her. I would love to have the two BTTF cars, but I really miss that MTG collection.
I shot right off the rails. Sorry. I don't know any other way I can prove I love Back to the Future. I even like the 2nd one which I feel is the weakest of the 3. Even though they are shitty I have 2 of the NES games for BTTF by JLN on a list at the local games shop. Those movies should never be rebooted, reimaged, etc. Just because someone doesn't react the same way you do at a bit of fiction, doesn't mean they are lying. It just means they reacted differently.
You cant name any mcu female as complex as mystique because she doesn’t exist. Opinions vs facts again? Opinions drawn from what we factually see. Eg, I have an opinion BP had bad cgi since in factually saw the movie with bad cgi,
See this is the problem the bold section. Good or bad are subjective judgement they totally depend on the person opinion. You can modify the sentence to be pure fact. "I have an opinion about BP. It had bad cgi since I factually saw the movie." That is a factual statement about your opinion. You had an opinion on a piece of artwork after you watched it. Saying you saw the movie with bad cgi is a opinion.
Everything you said about mystique is true but the j law hate to me is funny. This is what happens when scarlet Johansson is the mcu female lead and cant act well or does not try to. Go after the actress who can. Please keep saying she had a bad performance in DOFP while at the same time, you cant mention any mcu female who has given a better performance.
You can look at some of the conversations I had with charzhino to see my comments about how good of an Actress I think she is. Her performance in The Winter's Bone is excellent, but the movie that takes the cake is Silver Linings Playbook. That movie will always have special place in my mind. Her performance there was spectacular. I just don't think she and the Mystique character meshed well even as far back as First Class. It's not that noticeable in First Class because she had the hungry drive of a young actress climbing the ladder. This extra effort masked any incongruities the actress and the character had. You can see in DoFP where she starts to try less and separate from the character more. I don't know if it was the makeup that drained her. That has to be part of it because as the movies went on there were less scenes with her in it. Also by Apocalypse they didn't even do the full body makeup. They invented a blue sock/hoisery body suit with the scales on it. Just her hands and face were done with make up. They also minimized the detail of the make up each movie after FC. Each movie it went further away from the Rebecca makeup style.
I've said it before but just by her interviews you can tell she is displeased with the character. She has publicly dissed Fox's X-men. Talking to MTV during Passengers Press. in December 2016
“I would love to,” Lawrence said when asked about appearing in the “Guardians” universe. “I would choose that over doing another ‘X-Men’ movie maybe,” she laughed.
“I won’t be Mystique in the ‘X-Men’ movies, but I would love to be Mystique in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ I wonder if I could do that,” she said.
A year later December 2017 she said she "fucked herself" when her friend Simon Kinberg used her involvement in Dark Phoenix to get the Directing job. She told him she'd do it even though she was done with her contract, but only if he directed. So he used that commitment to snag the Directors roll. A few months later she rolled back her "Fucked Myself" quote and said she was doing it for the fans.
The thing is it can't be just the paint because as it's gotten less less intrusive her commitment to the character has gotten less. Also she wouldn't say she Play Mystique for Marvel but Not for Fox if it was just the paint.
With that insight can't you see how she stopped caring pretty soon after she got the role?
Its ironic isn’t it. Jlaw gave a better performance, in DOFP than any mcu actor has done in an mcu movie. So the worst performance of jlaw is still superior to any mcu performance. Sad.
MCU fans by default will have more emotional ties to IW. Long time comic fans marvel or dc fans of good film making will have more emotional ties to DOFP because we value good drama, real film making and substance.
So comics were really important to me. Luckily that bad patch only lasted about a year and half. The bad patch also made me appreciate movies much more so. If you go from watching countless movies at the cheap theater and on vhs to nothing then you also see how important entertainment is to keeping your sanity.
I've said why the deaths in DoFP didn't effect me so no reason to hash that back out. I also explained why I don't have as high of an Opinion on DoFP too. It's not the deaths thats the dramatic scene it's the moments before and during the deaths that effect me. I just think IW had more moments than DoFP
Cameron like avengers like most masses to. They like it but admit its stupid and has no substance.
critcs, film makers, audiences. hm, what is with all the talk that comic movies have ruined cinema? why do audince admits mcu movies are just about fun and nothing deep. trust speilberg when he said the genre will die out. IW is leading us there for part 2 when it goes froma 96% cgi movie to 100% cgi movie

I would ask for another citation for "critcs, film makers, audiences. hm, what is with all the talk that comic movies have ruined cinema?" as it pertains to MCU. I'm not though the 500 people I asked above would be applicable to this statement too.
Speilberg isn't some great psychic. All genre's ebb and flow. Yes there will be a time with this Golden Age of Comic Book movies will peter out. It will never truely end. Just like Westerns never truely ended. The supply gets lower and usually the only ones you hear about is the great ones. That will happen eventually to Comic Book Genre. I like how the Marvel Studios is trying to curtail it though. They make sub-genres to the Comic Book Genre. James Bond type movie with 16 year old Q Black Panther, Heist Movie with Ant-man, teenage John Hughes film with Homecoming, Political Thriller with Winter Solider, fun Buddy Road trip movie with Ragnarok, Psychedelic Martial Arts movie in Doctor Strange, Poppy Space Opera/Fantasy/Adventure with GotG, and Thor sword and sorcery genre. I like to see WB hop on this train too. And I think they have started to. Looks like like Shazaam is shaping up to be the classic body swap/ body change comedy. They were big in the 80's. Sorry for the pun. This should help keep the Genre from getting too stale.
Finally the bold text. I don't why you are so hung up on the amount of CGI in IW. There is no way to have 30+ characters all with differing degree of superpowers, suits, etc in far flung worlds and space and not have that high of a %. There would be no practical way to do the effects with that many characters. And for the most part it wouldn't look as good as with the CGI. It would cost more and take oodles of more time. Think about it. Every scene that a fully CGI'ed character is in is a CGI shot. They don't even have to be the focal point of the scene. They could be twiddling their thumbs in the background. There are 11 fully cgi'ed characters. The look of these characters dictate cgi. Thanos,The Outriders, Rocket, Groot, Wraith Red Skull, Hulk/Banner/Hulk Buster, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Mall, Cull Obsidian, and Corvus Glaive and Hollogram Sec. Ross. I looked up the time for these 11 taking into account when they were on the screen with another cgi character you come with a n estimate of 63 minutes of the movie which is 2hr and 40m long, that are CGI shots just because one of these characters are in the scene. That's roughly 39% of the movie. Now there are characters that are only partially touched up with cgi or their suits are cgied. Again this was done because to get the pratical to look good it would take too much time and money. Like Mantis and her antennae. So Ironman, Mantis, Vision, Starlord (mask), Spiderman , Black Panther, Nebula (Karen Gillian complained along side Sebastian Stan about the cgi sock they have to wear for the robotic arm cgi. They had to use KY to get it on) Bucky,Dr. Strange War Machine, and Falcon. These 11 when they are on camera most of the time they are suited up. To come up with an estimate for their scenes when they aren't using their powers and not sharing a scene with someone else suited up or sharing the scene wit a fully cgi'd character is harder to do. After going through the minutes of each character and trying to nix those 2 other variables I came to the conservative estimate of 36 minutes. Another 23% of screen time with just them suited up not fighting or using powers. That's 62% of the movie right there. No one has even used their powers yet. And again I reiterate there is no way they could've done these suits and creatures practically, look good, come at budget, and come on time. I'm not going to go through an look at the amount of time they spent on other worlds and in space then minus out the scenes with a cgi on the characters, or the use of powers in a fight. That the rest of the 34% is the little bit of space, scenery, but the last major use is the fights and use of powers. To me 34% isn't that big of a number when you are talking about Comic Book fights/powers. The 96% is just the answer to having that many superheroes and super villains in a 2hr and 40m movie. I would actually believe that there were some kind of CGI in each scene, be it ever so small. I would say 100% is plausible.
If you going to have that amount of characters that have suits, powers and fights there is no way around it unless you want to double the production time and double the 500 million dollar budget.
