I'm going to need a citation for this statement. For something to be deemed awful on that big of stage it should be easy to find. There are 10,000's of people in the World of Film Artistry. If it's so wide spread that the MCU is decried as awful it would have to be at least half the people in and around the world of film. I wouldn't even ask for that much. How about a citation showing 1% of these people. Lets say a conservative estimate of people in that world, actors, directors, writers, producers, lights, cinematographers, camera, makeup, fx, not to mention journalists and critics would be around 50,000 world wide. So 500 examples should be easy to find.
Oh so you just changed the definition. You kept one sorta to show respect, but you nixed the easily testable actual definitions for some abstract concepts that you came up with. I just went crazy and just looked up the commonly accept definitions: to praise, to show respect, to admire and to approve. It's easy to quantify the actual definitions of the words. You just have to look at what people say and rate a movie be it the general audience, critics, or people who judge award ceremonies. If you actually use the dictionaries definition you can see that Winter Soldier isn't the most prestigious or acclaimed.
Question how do you quantify your abstract definitions for acclaim and prestigious.
Of course I am going to wait and see. We've had one trailer. There's not enough data to even fairly speculate yet. I speculate now it might be Time Travel or Dimension/Multivers Hopping which kind of result in the same thing. The big question here is you said Confirmed. Words have meanings. The link you used as your proof of Confirmation had a question mark in title and in the first sentence used the verb seems. This is not confirmation. That is speculation on a very small sample size. The only people who can confirm time travel is the Writers, Directors, Actors and people who have seen it. As none of them have spoken about it. It hasn't been confirmed.
And with the Russo's and Marvel Studios Track record even official confirmation is subject to skepticism. The Russo's straight up said that the title of the the 4th movie wasn't said in any MCU movie. And End Game was used at least 2 times. In AoU and Infinity War. Also The trailer can't be trusted. The Studios intentionally put Hulk in the woods running with the avengers in Wakanda for IW. This wasn't in the movie and was a fake out. When Thanos is tying to crush Captain America they intentionally only put 2 stones on the gauntlet.
Don't take this the wrong way because I'm not trying to be mean but is English your first language? With the misspelling, grammar issues, and not using the proper definition of words some times I wonder. It's not bad if it is or isn't I was just curious.
I loved Back to the Future. During the last half of 80's to about 91, my mom would use the Gem Theater as a baby sitter. It was a second run theater that played older movies a ridiculous long time. I'm talking months. It was one of those Art Deco style single theaters small towns had. It was a 1 dollar to get in and the refreshments were reasonable too. 1.50 for large Coke, 2.50 for large popcorn, 60c for candy. If you bought all 3 you got 75c off.
I saw Throw Mama from the Train, Kindergarten Cop, Abyss, Back to the Future, Crocodile Dundee, Flight of the Navigator, Short Circuit, Alane Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold, Romancing the Stone, Rocky 4 each like 30 times a pop.
Hell I've driven a Delorean. It was just in a mall parking lot but it still counts.
I used to have 2 great collections. (I tend to collect things, recently its novels, ancient video games, old computers, etc) The 2 collections that started me off was 1:18 scale diecast cars and Magic the Gathering. I started both while running a nerd store back in my college days. The diecast were all movie/pop culture related. I had 2 BTTF Deloreans one with Mr. Fusion and the Wild West one. Never could snag the first movies diecast. I had: Dragula, Mystery Machine, General Lee, Knight Rider, Ecto 1, Christine, Mach 5, F and and 2 differnt Batmobiles. I'm forgetting a ton of them. My Magic the Gathering rare collection was even better. I had every dragons from Unlimited's to 8th edition Core Set and Dark Steel expansion. The Unlimited Shivan Dragon alone was worth 250 Bucks. The Portal Zodiac Dragon english version was worth like 200. Not to mention the duel lands I had from Unlimited. All told those lands were worth around 1200 bux. My then girlfriend in 2004 now ex-wife. Got into a jam with medical bills and was going to be evicted. So I had to sell them quick. If I piecemealed them out I probably could've gotten $500 for the diecast and $6500 for the Magic cards. I couldn't so I took a hit on both. I got around 40% for the diecasts and 30% for the Magic cards. How does the WAFFLE repay me? 5 years later after we were married she cheated on me with my middle brother. (the one I don't talk about) She then left me for him. It's surprising the Stripper I dated before my Ex wife had more morals than her. I would love to have the two BTTF cars, but I really miss that MTG collection.
I shot right off the rails. Sorry. I don't know any other way I can prove I love Back to the Future. I even like the 2nd one which I feel is the weakest of the 3. Even though they are shitty I have 2 of the NES games for BTTF by JLN on a list at the local games shop. Those movies should never be rebooted, reimaged, etc. Just because someone doesn't react the same way you do at a bit of fiction, doesn't mean they are lying. It just means they reacted differently.
I agreed with you on this. There hasn't been a female character in the MCU that has had the same type of Arc that Mystique has.
See this is the problem the bold section. Good or bad are subjective judgement they totally depend on the person opinion. You can modify the sentence to be pure fact. "I have an opinion about BP. It had bad cgi since I factually saw the movie." That is a factual statement about your opinion. You had an opinion on a piece of artwork after you watched it. Saying you saw the movie with bad cgi is a opinion.
Those two things aren't mutually exclusive you know? Jennifer Lawrence could have bad performances and MCU actress not have complete performances that are better. It's a crap situation. I think the talent is there and their are moments with the actresses in MCU that shows they can shine. They just haven't done it consistently enough. Scarlet has had good moments, but I can't say she has had a 100% knockout complete performance. Elizabeth Olsen, Lupita Nyong'o, Letitia Wright, and Zoe Saldana have shown promise, but again nothing break out. I would say Zoe had the closest, but her performance is drowned out in slapstick comedy.
You can look at some of the conversations I had with charzhino to see my comments about how good of an Actress I think she is. Her performance in The Winter's Bone is excellent, but the movie that takes the cake is Silver Linings Playbook. That movie will always have special place in my mind. Her performance there was spectacular. I just don't think she and the Mystique character meshed well even as far back as First Class. It's not that noticeable in First Class because she had the hungry drive of a young actress climbing the ladder. This extra effort masked any incongruities the actress and the character had. You can see in DoFP where she starts to try less and separate from the character more. I don't know if it was the makeup that drained her. That has to be part of it because as the movies went on there were less scenes with her in it. Also by Apocalypse they didn't even do the full body makeup. They invented a blue sock/hoisery body suit with the scales on it. Just her hands and face were done with make up. They also minimized the detail of the make up each movie after FC. Each movie it went further away from the Rebecca makeup style.
I've said it before but just by her interviews you can tell she is displeased with the character. She has publicly dissed Fox's X-men. Talking to MTV during Passengers Press. in December 2016
“I would love to,” Lawrence said when asked about appearing in the “Guardians” universe. “I would choose that over doing another ‘X-Men’ movie maybe,” she laughed.
“I won’t be Mystique in the ‘X-Men’ movies, but I would love to be Mystique in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ I wonder if I could do that,” she said.
A year later December 2017 she said she "fucked herself" when her friend Simon Kinberg used her involvement in Dark Phoenix to get the Directing job. She told him she'd do it even though she was done with her contract, but only if he directed. So he used that commitment to snag the Directors roll. A few months later she rolled back her "Fucked Myself" quote and said she was doing it for the fans.
The thing is it can't be just the paint because as it's gotten less less intrusive her commitment to the character has gotten less. Also she wouldn't say she Play Mystique for Marvel but Not for Fox if it was just the paint.
With that insight can't you see how she stopped caring pretty soon after she got the role?
See above. Jlaw was saved by her dwindling commitment to the part by deft writing. I don't know if we just haven't had a young character to older character like Mystique in the MCU yet to show how much she's grown. I would say Gamora and Nebula is the closest. Again the comedy outshines them. I like the way Scarlet Witch is developing. Going from tragedy to tragedy.
I guess I'm the exception. I've been reading comics from around 92 on ward. I have become completely slack in going out and buying collections/graphic novels. I just don't have the time to hunt down individual books so I like to grab them all bound together. A friend of mine in schools started bringing in his books around 92. I was starved for entertainment as my family hit a rough patch. I don't want to go into it, but we were an eyelash away from being homeless and was on food stamps. The only 2 outlets I had were books from the library (which I couldn't always get as it was a waste of gas and if I incurred a late fee, even at 15c actually effected our bill paying ability) and Wayne letting me borrowing his comic books. We had sold the tv and vcr. We had to rely on relatives for hand me down clothes and we all earned money some how. It was a hard lesson to learn, but I'm glad I learned it.
So comics were really important to me. Luckily that bad patch only lasted about a year and half. The bad patch also made me appreciate movies much more so. If you go from watching countless movies at the cheap theater and on vhs to nothing then you also see how important entertainment is to keeping your sanity.
I've said why the deaths in DoFP didn't effect me so no reason to hash that back out. I also explained why I don't have as high of an Opinion on DoFP too. It's not the deaths thats the dramatic scene it's the moments before and during the deaths that effect me. I just think IW had more moments than DoFP
Again that's his opinion. I don't value Cameron's opinion any more than I value my brothers.
I would ask for another citation for "critcs, film makers, audiences. hm, what is with all the talk that comic movies have ruined cinema?" as it pertains to MCU. I'm not though the 500 people I asked above would be applicable to this statement too.
Speilberg isn't some great psychic. All genre's ebb and flow. Yes there will be a time with this Golden Age of Comic Book movies will peter out. It will never truely end. Just like Westerns never truely ended. The supply gets lower and usually the only ones you hear about is the great ones. That will happen eventually to Comic Book Genre. I like how the Marvel Studios is trying to curtail it though. They make sub-genres to the Comic Book Genre. James Bond type movie with 16 year old Q Black Panther, Heist Movie with Ant-man, teenage John Hughes film with Homecoming, Political Thriller with Winter Solider, fun Buddy Road trip movie with Ragnarok, Psychedelic Martial Arts movie in Doctor Strange, Poppy Space Opera/Fantasy/Adventure with GotG, and Thor sword and sorcery genre. I like to see WB hop on this train too. And I think they have started to. Looks like like Shazaam is shaping up to be the classic body swap/ body change comedy. They were big in the 80's. Sorry for the pun. This should help keep the Genre from getting too stale.
Finally the bold text. I don't why you are so hung up on the amount of CGI in IW. There is no way to have 30+ characters all with differing degree of superpowers, suits, etc in far flung worlds and space and not have that high of a %. There would be no practical way to do the effects with that many characters. And for the most part it wouldn't look as good as with the CGI. It would cost more and take oodles of more time. Think about it. Every scene that a fully CGI'ed character is in is a CGI shot. They don't even have to be the focal point of the scene. They could be twiddling their thumbs in the background. There are 11 fully cgi'ed characters. The look of these characters dictate cgi. Thanos,The Outriders, Rocket, Groot, Wraith Red Skull, Hulk/Banner/Hulk Buster, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Mall, Cull Obsidian, and Corvus Glaive and Hollogram Sec. Ross. I looked up the time for these 11 taking into account when they were on the screen with another cgi character you come with a n estimate of 63 minutes of the movie which is 2hr and 40m long, that are CGI shots just because one of these characters are in the scene. That's roughly 39% of the movie. Now there are characters that are only partially touched up with cgi or their suits are cgied. Again this was done because to get the pratical to look good it would take too much time and money. Like Mantis and her antennae. So Ironman, Mantis, Vision, Starlord (mask), Spiderman , Black Panther, Nebula (Karen Gillian complained along side Sebastian Stan about the cgi sock they have to wear for the robotic arm cgi. They had to use KY to get it on) Bucky,Dr. Strange War Machine, and Falcon. These 11 when they are on camera most of the time they are suited up. To come up with an estimate for their scenes when they aren't using their powers and not sharing a scene with someone else suited up or sharing the scene wit a fully cgi'd character is harder to do. After going through the minutes of each character and trying to nix those 2 other variables I came to the conservative estimate of 36 minutes. Another 23% of screen time with just them suited up not fighting or using powers. That's 62% of the movie right there. No one has even used their powers yet. And again I reiterate there is no way they could've done these suits and creatures practically, look good, come at budget, and come on time. I'm not going to go through an look at the amount of time they spent on other worlds and in space then minus out the scenes with a cgi on the characters, or the use of powers in a fight. That the rest of the 34% is the little bit of space, scenery, but the last major use is the fights and use of powers. To me 34% isn't that big of a number when you are talking about Comic Book fights/powers. The 96% is just the answer to having that many superheroes and super villains in a 2hr and 40m movie. I would actually believe that there were some kind of CGI in each scene, be it ever so small. I would say 100% is plausible.
If you going to have that amount of characters that have suits, powers and fights there is no way around it unless you want to double the production time and double the 500 million dollar budget.
You just confirmed when I said only mcu fanantics wil be the only people who will smile if if gets nominated, the rest of the world will be on the cringe factor and will not take it seriously. Mcu fans you guys know you don’t earn anything.
As long as MCU movies are seen as dumb movies for the masses they will always been seen as awful not to be taken seriously. That is the point. The variety critic who called IW one of the worst films of 2018, notice he applied his intellect and even said it is stupid of people to blow up planets and laugh it off? So when critics praise mcu as dumb fun, in the serious sense they know they are awful if they had to use their brains to review mcu movies. That is why you can compare the reviews of mcu movies to say batman begins or X2. Critics intellect seems to show more when they review those films unlike mcu movies.
It's also funny that when MCU is liked the general public they are pandering to the dumb masses, but when a movie you like is popular to the general public it's just the movie is reaching the audience. It's almost just like the critical acclaim you want to find a way to accept the praise from the general public while simultaniously descrediting the same people who like Marvel Studios movies. That's kind of interesting. You do know Fox execs, directors, actors, producers, writers hope every release day that their product appeals to that general public you call the dumb masses. Without that connection studios would lose money. The dumb masses make it possible for you to enjoy the movies you enjoy. Without them the X-men wouldn't have continued.
Winter Solider is still the most prestigious MCU movie because it is the only mcu movie that is brought up to defend the argument not all mcu movies are generic childish stupid entertainment. I have never heard any mcu fan try and argue with iron man and gotg when a dc fan brings up TDK or an xmen fans brings up DOFP. They always argue with winter solider. If you think GOTG a jokey idiotic toy commercial movie where the hero asked the villain for a dance off is the most famous scene in the film or iron man 1 that TDK more than destroyed in 2008 is more prestigious than winter solider becuae of stupid things like rt and imdb. Then I feel sorry for the MCU.
So you are just going to make up the definition to words now? At best your interactions with people is anecdotal and as such is a small sample size? The first rule of statistics is that with larger sample sizes you increase precision and decrease standard deviations.
Words have meanings you just can't make up your own. Prestigious and Acclaim means, praise, admiration, respect, to honor, and award. You can't determine that with little conversations you've had on the internet and people bring up WS when discussing movies. To find out if the public and critics admire and acclaim a movie you have to use tools that show that. RT, IMDB, Cineamscore, and Metacritic show with a large sample size what the general public and critics are saying about a movie. That's all they do. They don't make up the critics and audiences scores. They don't skew them they just take them and package them for ease of use. You would get the same scores if you tallyed all the critics scores that you personally went out and asked movie critics. You would get the same rating from the audience if you randomly choose 10,000+ people to rate a movie. Would that make it easier to take? Do you still think RT skews critical reviews to the MCU? When 30% is owned by WB and 70% by NBC Universal. Two companies that are direct competition with Disney/Marvel?
How would you quantify the public's and critic's acclaim of a movie? How large a sample size would you use. I'm sorry but anecdotal evidence doesn't cut it. And we can't change the meanings of words for you to try and make anecdotal evidence true.
While you say wait and see, tell me, has Disney ever come out and said we are going to change their formula? And we can now make movies like TDK, DOFP , X2 or Logan or into the spiderverse? If they haven't than please expect more useless dumb comic films for captian marvel and mcu xmen.
While you wait maybe you can find this formula everyone talks about. Do you think Disney keeps it under lock and key? You ever think their formula is to introduce characters, introduce the characters to a scenario with human/sentience controllers of that scenario, have the scenario and the controllers defeated in a climax, and then show how the Characters changed for going through that scenario? You know basic storytelling. I wonder how they cracked the code and got Critics and Audiences to love their offering. It can't be that they generally care what the audience sees and wants them to have a good time. It can't be that humor, heart and spectacle the universal mantra of action stories have used? Maybe the formula is to shake up the genre with different styles of sub genre movies so their movies don't get stale.
I will just keep it short. Back to the future is a superior film to infinity war on every level. You already lost when you tried to make the argument there was more emotional core in infinity war than watching marty disappear. Please we know how mcu fans love to argue mcu movies are better than everything else. Next they will tell me black panther is better than 12 years a slave.LMAO
There was no suspense it Marty fading away because you know that was never going to happen. Just like everyone knows the dusted won't stay dead. The only suspense that was in BTTF was what was going to change after his Dad grew a pair. The only suspense in the dusting is how are they going to try and get them back and how they will comeback when they do. Like will they have the same personality as before they died?
And what I mean by emotional connection is having Marty stare at is hand like he was on acid, doesn't come close to a 15 year old kid begging not to die because he was scared. Or Cap feeling the weight of the trillions of failures he just had resting on his shoulders.
If you can't see that then you must be watching an entirely different set of movies.
And as for your upteenth hundred attempt to pigeon hole me and say I think MCU movies are better than anything else. Answer me this Why would I rate Aquaman higher than half the MCU. I put X2, Spidey 2, First Class, BB and TDK at the top of my list beating out almost all the MCU movies. It seems if I were to fit in your pigeon hole that I wouldn't have rival movies above most of the MCU movies. Curious. It's like I don't think MCU movies are better than all other movies. Hell, it seems like I don't even think it's better than rival comicbook movies weird. I must be wrong some how.
The best way to settle the jlaw debate. Her arc in first class and DOFP are superior to any other mcu actors. It is not jlaw’ fault that mcu actors are lacking because mcu has week scripts . You cant attack jlaw all you want it wont change anything that when she is at her best in xmen, she disgraces all the other mcu actors.
The deaths in DOFP cannot affect you more because that will mean you have to admit the obvious that DOFP was a superior movie. Wait did you say IW had mote moments than DOFP? Really?
Now in IW death montage you have Spiderman Begging for his life to his Father Figure. You have the Father Figure realizing his worst fear is happening his adopted son/ward (in a mental since not actual) is dying in front of him. You see Rocket saying no no no as his son dies infront of him. You see the shock, suprise and hurt when Okye's king melts in his hand. You see Cap powerless to even movie as he watches Bucky disintegrate
And there are plenty more scenes to choose from. Also please see the cinematography of DOFP. Its grounded and looks real. infinity war looks like a cartoon or a play station game. so its is hard to see humanity in it.
see that is factually impossible that IW had more moments. because DOFP is a drama. film Logic dictates a pure cgi action film cant have more moments. That is contradictory to screen writing so keep lying to yourself to savage what is left of such a terrible film like IW. at this point. you are lying something mcu fans do all the time.
I would recite the new rules about denigrating a whole group of people by calling them liars, but you know what you are a doing. You are trying to goad me. I got to tell you it's not going to work.
I am supposing you have read above this and actually read it this time. So you know I was specifically talking about the moments during the Sentinel Attack and the Future X-men Dying vs the Snap and the montage of Avengers dying. From my memory I pulled out 5 in IW in Dofp with the added scenes from the Rogue cut I remember 2. Now I'm not saying that is the final count. It's just what I remember. If you can remember 4 other moments in that specific scene and describe them I'll trust your knowledge. That really does sound like a mind of a Liar doesn't it. Me willing to trust your memory. Now we shouldn't even count the Kitty looking for Bobby and acknowledging he's dead if it's only in the Rogue Cut. Again I can't remember. If that scene is not in the Theatrical Cut then it shouldn't count unless we are using a Director Cut of IW.
MCU fans don’t like to listen to film makers. Its funny, you don’t value jaems Cameron opinions that was sound and reasonable but you value people on imdb with sock accounts voting about films with fanboy minds? See this is why mcu movies are a joke. Lol. Doesn’t value what someone like Cameron says who has made some of the great artistic film block busters but values useless critics on rt giving mcu movies a pass because it has bright colours and is fun yet you ignore when Cameron who gave a perfect logical reason why GOTG is an awful movie compared to interstellar and gravity. Men, I am embarrassed on your behalf. I never knew it was this okay to celebrate liking dumb things when you have a free opportunity to like more intellectual things. Sorry but I will take intellectual over dumb. That goes a long long way.
Do we understand now?
LOTR 3 had as much CGI, funny LOTR 3 still managed to be a powerful compelling drama, wonder why infinity war is so inferior to LOTR 3
remember when jodi forster slammed comic films with their 500 million budget just to open themes park in the end? thanks for proving her right. IW is not even a real movie. its a toy commercial. if you want a real comic film. try X-Men 1 or Batman Begins.
