Neither did Tintin or any of the Lego movies, despite strong reviews and various awards won. The animation branch of the Academy simply don't seem to like films based on TV, toys or similar well-known properties.
The Simpsons Movie had some strong moments, especially in the first half, but should have been made some years earlier, while the show was in its heyday. It ran out of steam by the time the family escaped to Alaska.
