Though it's funny how that excuse only seems to apply to teams who were expected to win but lost. Maybe sometimes you just lose? I think Georgia was one of the best 4 teams in the country. I don't think Texas would have beaten them if they were both in the National Championship playoffs. But you are correct. We will never know since Georgia was left out of the playoffs. And Texas beat them in the Sugar Bowl. It's definitely a real phenomenon. Good teams have been embarrassed in non-title bowl games where you can tell they just aren't as invested as the other squad. I don't think that should be held against the victor, and it shouldn't be an excuse for the loser but it's unquestionably the reality in many situations. This Georgia loss is surprising at least to me, because they were taunting Notre Dame on twitter. You'd think they'd be motivated to prove something to the committee and come out on fire.
