The only way I could think a cameo could work would be the Quantum Jumping through the Multiverse theory on how they are going to fight Thanos and try to rewrite the Decimation. (There is a scene with the Ancient One is showing Strange the multiverse that looks like the scenes in Antman and the Wasp Quantum Tunneling scene.) Now if The Avengers look through different Earths looking for some Macguffin before they jump to different dimensions they could get away with a small cameo of seeing other Earth's in the Multiverse. If they flash different versions of earth along one could have Hugh Jackman fighting as Wolverine as if you blink you miss it type of cameo.
I'm not a proponent of actually having that cameo, but I don't think if it's something benign and quick as that I don't see it being any better or worse than other cameos Fox and Marvel have done in the past.
I don't think the cameo if it happens should set up the X-men as sadly Hugh has just gotten to old and it's best to leave the Fox Universe as is. I never really wanted the two blended. And having a more substantial scene would cement in the general populations mind that the two Universes will be blended together. I think their should be a hard delineation between the two. Not just for protecting the previous X-men universe. Which I do want to a degree, but to also to protect the MCU X-men when they finally come.
