So what’s the deal with the DCEU? This is the second time we think it’s dead and gone and then it does this. And if anything Aquaman should be more encouraging than Wonder Woman, as it didn’t have the cultural significance and rave reviews of the latter and yet it’s making bank and has a shot at $1 billion if its legs hold up. WB forgets just how inherently cool and iconic DC characters are. They can’t afford another misfire after this success. They need to get their shit together and make the Reeves Batman movie and, for the love of God, find a way to keep Cavill and make a proper standalone sequel to Man of Steel. Not sure what Shazam will do, but it seems that movie is set up to fail, at least in terms of reviews. It easily takes the cake for cheesiest looking movie in this universe so far, and I don't know if anyone thought that was possible once Aquaman was announced. The one thing going for it is that WB has been pretty good at allowing their directors to do what they want in these solo movies, and that in turn has meant, for the most part, good to great reviews for their solo movies.
The only thing that is helping Shazam is WB wanting to cut the budgets for their movies. Aquaman was made for less than 200 million, and my guess is Shazam's budget will be close to Wonder Woman's(125 million). If in fact the budget is 125 million, will 400 million or so worldwide be good enough. I cannot see it making much more than that. Then again I can say I didn't think Aquaman would make as much as it currently has.
