The ending event semi-aligns with TF1, yet the year & date of that does not, unless TF1 was taking place in 1987 which would be impossible considering the tech & info age stuff dotting that film.
On the other hand, they could easily discard TF1's premise &/or existence by retconning that Earthbound arrival & make it their own. Which would great to see this new gen TF art direction & less self-serious tone.
