Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film.
FIRST TIME MOVIE VIEWING
Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse (2018, Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey)
Cinema
Wondeful blend of animation styles, great nods to comic book styles, good soundtrack and easily the best spiderman film yet. Makes my top 10 of the year.
7.5/10
Updated 2018 top 10
1. Thoroughbreds 7.5-8
2. The Other Side of the Wind 7.5
3. First Reformed 7.5
4. Mission: Impossible - Fallout 7.5
5. Leave no Trace 7.5
6. Deadpool 2 7.5
7. Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse
8. Incredibles 2 7.5
9. American Animals 7
10. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs 7
Captain Fantastic (2016, Matt Ross)
Netflix
Set in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, a father devoted to raising his six kids with a rigorous physical and intellectual education is forced to leave his paradise and enter the world, challenging his idea of what it means to be a parent.
It is well acted but just kind of finishes when it feels like there is more to be told.
6/10
The Boy (2016, William Brent Bell)
Netflix
A doll horror set in England, it is pretty bad, I called the twist about 25 minutes in.
4/10
REPEAT MOVIE VIEWING
Orphan (2009, Jaume Collet-Serra)
blu ray
Simple little horror, a bit tedious in the middle but a strong finish.
6/10
FIRST TIME TV VIEWING
Watership Down (2018, Limited Series)
Netflix
Four episode retelling of the famous novel done with cgi animation. Enjoyed this, not for kids though.
Recommended
REPEAT TV VIEWING
True Detective (2014, Season One)
blu ray
One of the greatest seasons of television ever. Look forward to the new season later this month, apparently a return to form.
Highly Recommended
