Aquaman was great. It took time to find its stride and felt pretty choppy(lol), but was a solid step forward and all around epic. I thought based on reviews and his previous outing that DC gave Arthur much more of Namor’s persona than they actually did. If Marvel wanted to give the Sub-Mariner a full feature at this point, in spite of the vague legal issues, it’s still doable without being seen as a copy. Arthur isn’t really so Namor-like - he’s a goofy, blunt, heroic Thor, whereas Orm is his (early, pre-TDW I’d say) Loki. And Orm can still grow and evolve, as Loki has done, as well as revert as needed by the plot. 🤷♂️
Namor is proud. He is arrogant. He is honorable. He is powerful. He can back up his claims and BDE. He is exclusionary. He is a total Orm, at least early on. I thought this before, but now initiating his presence as the antagonist is a more valuable route than ever. The key is for his actions to be misguided, protective of his people, and for the key-players to come to an understanding to allow for Namor to move from initial pure villain, to conflicted antagonist, to anti-hero and ally for the heroes. He still remains a dick. But he’s the heroes’ dick. A villainous role in a Black Panther or FF movie is the perfect way to bring him in.
