Captain Fantastic - I thought it was quite good. Really good performance from Viggo. 7.5/10Orphan - Aside from the great twist, I found the last act to be the weakest part, but the movie is still good overall. 7/10
True Detective season 1 - brilliant
First Time Viewings:
The Old Man & the Gun (2018, David Lowery)

This one is based on a true story and I found it to be pretty good. It's well cast and fairly entertaining throughout.

This one has been getting really good reviews and I thought it was pretty good overall, with some very good moments here and there.

Bad Times at the El Royale (2018, Drew Goddard)
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018, Drew Goddard)
Based on the trailers and plot synopsis I was getting a Hateful Eight vibe from this one and it turns out the film definitely has some similarities. I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Tarantino's film, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. It's well cast, well paced, and I enjoyed the twists and turns in the story.Good music too.
7.5/10

This one has some pretty powerful moments and good acting from the two main guys.

Bird Box (2018, Susanne Bier)
Bird Box (2018, Susanne Bier)
Some nice tension in this one and it has a cool concept that was pretty well executed. I definitely think it could have been better, but it was pretty good and Sandra Bullock puts in some strong work.
7/10
Wildlife (2018, Paul Dano)
Wildlife (2018, Paul Dano)
This family based drama is really well done and has some scenes that will definitely stay with me. Good performances from the main trio too, especially Carey Mulligan, who I think deserves some awards nominations.

The two leads are good and the film itself is pretty good too.

Dogville (2003, Lars Von Trier)
Dogville (2003, Lars Von Trier)
A strange, but interesting film. It's nearly three hours, but I found it engaging and the cast did a good job.
7.5/10
Antichrist (2009, Lars Von Trier)
Antichrist (2009, Lars Von Trier)
I already knew about the more graphic parts of this film and while they were certainly disturbing, it felt like it was just shock for the sake of shock. The leads are good, but the film didn't do much for me overall and felt like a wasted opportunity.
5/10
Melancholia (2011, Lars Von Trier)
Melancholia (2011, Lars Von Trier)
I liked part one a bit more than part two, but both were good and on the whole I liked this one quite a bit. It's well acted and I liked the symbolism.

The Favourite (2018, Yorgos Lanthimos)
The Favourite (2018, Yorgos Lanthimos)
I ended up enjoying this one more than I thought I would. It's very well made, has three wonderful performances, and is very entertaining. I was looking forward to it, but I didn't expect to love it.

The House That Jack Built (2018, Lars Von Trier)
The House That Jack Built (2018, Lars Von Trier)
I thought this one was really well done. It kept me engaged throughout and had some truly fantastic sequences. Matt Dillon is damn good int he lead role too, which certainly helped.

Here is my recent review of Melancholia: This movie has a lot of things going for it but lacks a little something I would call edginess or sharpness. I wanted to be moved, I wanted to be shocked, I wanted the story to throw me and cut me, I wanted it all but the script prevented me from reaching the ultimate goal. Beautiful, well-acted, captivating but just misses that spark of greatness. 6.5-7/10
Holy Grail: 7/10
Mine:
Welcome to Collinwood (2002 DVD): This movie was short and sweet, simple and effective, funny and entertaining. The cast was nice and I was surprised to see that Sam Rockwell was the lead (he’s unrecognizable on the case) and he was really good. William H Macy plays one of his best characters ever, George Clooney has good moments and Michael Jeter (RIP) is hilarious. If you did not like The Ladykillers (2004) this one is similar but might be better for you. If you liked The Ladykillers this one is a must for you. My rating: 7.5-8/10
Black Mirror: Bendersnatch (2018 Netflix): Fun concept, cool experience. Although the path I followed brought me to an abrupt end (like 45 minutes) so the movie kept suggesting me to go back to make a different choice and I saw the same scenes 2-3 times. But this minor flaw was worth it because I enjoyed discovering the new paths. I have to admit I anticipated the moment the movie would offer me the choice to kill someone. Mouhahaha, byebye “dad”!! I would rate the movie itself a 7 but the concept elevates it to a 8/10
Office Christmas Party (2016 Netflix): Please take a look at the movie’s poster on Imdb and you’ll understand why I loved this gem that went under my radars until now. First, notice that there is 11 actors listed; I can assure you that there is AT LEAST 11 memorable characters in this movie. Then look at the picture with the burnt Christmas tree, the broken window and the passed out people; The story and event do manage to evokes that feeling of wild partying and chaos. Plus it’s hilarious and might be the best “Jason Bateman comedy” ever and yes I think it was funnier than Game Night. My rating: 7.5-8/10
A quiet Place (2018 Netflix): OK, maybe the fact that it took me 40 minutes to realise that the english subtitles did not translate their sign language didn’t help me to care for the story but I failed to invest myself completely into this film. Once I switched to french subtitles it was definitely better. There are a few highlights, mainly the children actors and the ending, but this movie has nothing on Hereditary. My rating 6.5/10
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017 Blu-ray): This movie was a real blast and I loved it. Im not a reference for spider-man movies (barely saw any of them) but this one instantly entered my Top 5 Marvel movies. Well done for my taste. 8.5/10
Histoire d’Hivers (“Winter Stories” 1999 TV): “An adult reminisces about his life in the 1966/67 school year. At fifteen years old, he collected hockey cards, played street hockey with his friends, tried skating and ice hockey for the first time in his life, but was most fascinated with his local national league team, the Montréal Canadiens.” Heart-warming, genuine, nostalgic and touching, this winter-feel-good movie was perfect for the season. I can’t believe I never saw it before; it’s all actors I know and good ones at that! 8.5-9/10
Spaceballs (1987 DVD): It was my first time watching this flick from start to finish. Although it was not as funny as I thought it would be, I thought it was fairly entertaining and Pullman, Candy, Moranis and Rivers elevated it. 6.5/10
Tsotsi (2005 DVD): “Six days in the violent life of a young Johannesburg gang leader. “ All through this film I kept having déja-vu, as if I had seen it before but Im pretty sure I never did. Anyways, good story, good acting, good movie and good direction from Gavin Hood. 7.5/10
