MLB: Where Do Teams 'Get Off' Making Their Own Outfield Dimensions?

I love it. It was crazier in the 1950s with the Polo Grounds, the old Yankee Stadium, and a few others. I would think some of it has to do with where they located the stadium. Fenway couldn't extend any farther. The wall is compensation.

I mentioned this before, but I wish baseball had developed with each home team deciding whether the bases would be run counterclockwise or clockwise. Left-handers shouldn't have a built-in advantage in every single game.

I suppose there's no way to add ground rules to the NBA (adjustable rim height?). But I've never understood why a ball that goes over the backboard is automatically out of play, or why a ball jammed between the backboard and rim isn't up for grabs.
