Yankees are out after signing DJ LeMahieu and Tulo. And they were never in on Harper. Have to admit, I'm impressed (and scared) of the new fiscally responsible Yankees. They spent wisely, filled needs and didn't go berserk on big ticket items. They did this in the 90's and won a shitload of rings. Which one said that they didn't like Philadelphia? Must have been Machado. I'd be concerned about Machado. He doesn't like to play hard now. What will he do when he gets his last big payday. He will be 34 after seven years, still enough to get more cash but not this kind of money. Would not surprise me to see his average drop to the Mendoza Line in two years. Agreed I'm a Mets fan and hate the Yankees but their new approach of building from within without spending ridiculous amounts of money could build them a new dynasty like in the late 90's specially with the young core they have (Judge, Sanchez, Andujar) all they really need is a good Ace and they are ready to go. The Yanks of the early 2000's would have thrown bushels of cash at Harper, regardless of need. Especially in a year where the Red Sox aren't making many headlines. You could call Judge, Sanchez. Andujar and Torres the "New Core Four". And very wise acquisitions, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks and a couple big contracts, Stanton, Chapman. They stayed away from Ohtani last year and the Terrible Two this year. Still with an embarrassment of riches in the minors. The Red Sox might challenge for another year, then the upcoming contracts of the big players, Sale, Betts, Bogie added to the already bloated payroll could hamstring the Sox. Grrrrr. I liked the Yankees better when they did stupid things.
