Could teams be looking at Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrara and wising up? You can't compare the 7 year offer to Machado to either of those contracts. Both Pujos and Cabrara were north of 30 when they signed, both with contracts giving them 28M plus a year into their age 41 season. Neither MM or Bryce will be the disaster that Prince Albert or Miggy will be. Cabrera's numbers started falling off after age 33. Same with Pujols (he put up some empty numbers at age 36 (big power, nothing else, Kingman-esque). A team won't have the albatross of a big deal to a 40+ year old, but these 7-10 year deals rarely work. Couple that with the perceived attitudes of both players.
