I don't know, but the NBA and NFL know how to market their players. Has to be some way to get these secrets. Remember Robert Griffin III? He was marketed to death before he was drafted. I recall three or four major TV ad campaigns. My wife recoginzed him, she asked "Who's the RGIII and is that his real name or an acronym?" My wife, who never watched a CFB game that year. A player who had played as many minutes as I have in the NFL was a household name. Granted, baseball seems to have superstars who are as exciting as bowl of corn flakes. Trout, Aaron Judge seems to be dull. But ad agencies can make anyone seem relevant. I don't get it. Trout and Judge are two great examples I don't know what MLB can do other than possibly shortening the MLB Season and I'd like to go back to the old format and nix the 1 game Wilcard Playoff which in my eyes is the biggest travesty in sports (with the NHL's 1 PT for an OT loss a close second) I'll get tomatoes thrown at me - so be it. Condense the season dramaticaly. Pitchers and catchers report 2nd week of April. Spring training is 2 weeks in May. Boys of Summer? OK. Start the Season Memorial Day around May 28th - the kickoff to summer - a bit before the NBA Finals are set and a couple of weeks before schools let out.. End the Season Labor Day - Sept 3rd or so right when the NFL is kicking off. You play an 82 game set - ballpark NBA and NHL games. Screw inter league play - 75% of the games will be division rivals where travel is doable in that time span. I'm just getting started............ The owners are the ones who will throw tomatoes. Think they would be on board with cutting half of their games? Half of their home dates? Half of the local TV revenue (which is enormous)? Just because fans don't have the attention span? Would you if you owned a team? Financially, baseball is in the best shape ever. The local TV deals, MLB Extra innings and merchandise printing money for the game. The real danger is having the game itself become irrelevant. Making some star a hip image would help a lot.
