Good point. But I would argue BP goes beyond that after Disney attempted to openly rig the awards for it this year. I feel like any summer blockbuster that’s third act is basically a big fan service jerk off session doesn’t really belong at the Oscars. Even WW devolved from a badass war film to a God on God fight fest. If you have to force your story to appeal to the masses then it’s probably not made for the Academy. Chicago is one big jerkoff session for musical fans. Is there even a story to that film? It won Best Picture. I don't always agree with the Academy, but one thing that's become clear to me over the years is that there's no set criteria as to what makes an 'Oscar film.' They had to acknowledge the CBM genre sooner or later, Black Panther finally made it happen.
