When I was a kid I would often go to Muslims and pretend that I had a great interest in their religion. I remember I once visited a book shop that was owned by a Muslim. I tried to convince him that I had a great interest in the religion of Islam and appreciated its message of brotherhood and peace.. The facial expression on his face was priceless when he heard that from me. He gave me a free Quran, a book to learn Urdu and 20% discount (over what he would give to others) for my school textbooks. I guess my intention of praising Islam was partly to get that discount but I have noted that many Muslims become very pleased if you let them know that you have interest in their religion. I continued the same stitch when I was I was in UK and Australia. That said I ended up being truly friends with many middle eastern Muslims and later revealed my act to them.
