The 'Candyman' remake is a joke and the studio are only making it to keep the rights of the character. Tony Todd and Clive Barker announced a couple of years ago they had plans to make a new 'Candyman' movie which would have been a continuation to the first movie and ignored the sequels much like the 'Halloween' movie did last year and they were going to have Virginia Madsen return as a ghost in it but the studio wouldn't let them make it and instead are doing a remake now so the rights don't revert back to Clive Barker and he can make money making his own 'Candyman' movies. The same thing has been happening for years to him with 'Hellraiser' which is why we have had so many awful 'Hellraiser' sequels and it has been all about keeping the rights to the franchise so they don't revert back to its creator.
