One album in particular that I remember buying just because the cover looked cool was this one:

And it turned out to be excellent IMO.

But there were plenty of albums that I bought sound unheard, even albums that were praised in reviews, that I thought were crap. One example is WHITE ZOMBIE's "Make Them Die Slowly". I was a big SLAYER fan at the time, and one reviewer compared it favorably to SLAYER's "South of Heaven". But I hated that WHITE ZOMBIE album so much that I gave it away.
