For what it's worth, Wayne was partially who brought me in to check it out as a pre-teen, borrowed from local library.
I know it's common knowledge that he commanded more money (& less shooting time) than most everyone else involved, & yet I probably wouldn't have experienced it til' much later. I guess -for me- that paid off. Besides, it almost works to its advantage that the film really doesn't ever depend on any single star or the other to make it worthwhile. Snippets of known actors sprinkled around make the picture & its historical context front & centre.
