Well, there is a new term on the street - "soft reboot". Basically a sequel to an old franchise that reintroduces it to new audiences by essentially remaking the original film. Superman Returns falls into this category, along with The Force Awakens, Vacation 2015, and Halloween 2018.
Other than that, I agree. It drives me up the f**king wall when a horror remake is called a reboot. It all goes back to Psycho 1998. That movie permanently tainted the word "remake" so now studios have been making up new words ever since. First they trued "reimagining" but that didn't quite catch on.
