If these fucktwats have another strike I'm done with baseball. How much money do you need?
Are there any teams out there in the 4 major sports that you can think of that use a portion of their money for charitable contributions towards their city/state? Not talking volunteer work - I'm talking this comes down from Upper Management that a certain amount of assets - players as well dictated in the contract they sign - make a contribution to the community either monetarily or 'time wise' - i.e. giving back to the community.
They probably all do to a certain extent, it's a great way to reduce your taxable income and to get some good PR at the same time. Although it's usually done through an affiliated foundation or similar entity (depending on what state you're in) and it's tied to some personal charity and not necessarily geared towards one particular town/state. The players are more likely to give back to their respective towns and childhood neighborhoods by making school grants, boys-and-girls club type organizations, etc. Not saying they all do, but a bunch of them certainly do.
