Interestingly, Hooper had the baseball cap and beard look and Spielberg started using it after that.

The script was submitted by someone (forgot his name-son of a famous actress) and he ended up suing Spielberg and co.
It could have been an interesting court case since the plaintiff had Ray Bradbury as his expert witness on ghost stories while the defense had Richard Matheson--but it got settled out of court.
