Why just hard sci-fi? Edge of Tomorrow isn't part sci-fi btw. Hard sci is a completely different genre to others like Sci fi fantasy/comedy/action. The latter are films like Ghostbusters, Guardians of the galaxy, Star Wars, Xmen, Terminator, etc. In other words they dont take the science fiction portion of the story serious enough to be hard sci fi. Their reliance is more on action, humour, fantasy. And most importantly, they are franchise films. So I would redefine hard sci fi for this ranking as original (mostly) sci fi. Most peoples top 3 listed in this thread are original, the likes of Edge of tomorrow, Arrival, Interstellar, Gravity, Inception, Prometheus, Coherence, Source Code, Ex-Machina, The Martian. Something like Blade Runner 2049 is technically a franchise, but the uniqueness of it and the under appreciation for the original leans me to consider it a novel film anyhow. This is completely irrelevant. You're asking people for their opinion and then putting on these parameters and what they can and can't say, as well as trying to change the definition of words. What do you think you are, a non-binary/conforming kid? Come on, man. And Terminator ignores the science?!
