I'm also getting an NFL feel to this when a star holds out in the summer to skip the meaningless ridiculous 4 game preseason and training camp - i.e. if you are 'that guy' - i.e. a superstar and you feel you don't 'need it'.
I guess as long as they're there first game end of March/1st of April - it's kind of all that counts.
I think pitchers and catchers reporting in February and asinine month long exhibition games in MLB is one of the most ridiculous events in sports this side of a point for an OT loss in hockey.
