On this Gabriel thing, I agree with Root, but think the public outcry is typical sanctimonious SM drivel. I've written lots of column inches in my life. Chances are I'vr written silly or ignorant things unintentionally. I've never apologised for any of them because I'm not willing to apologise for all of them. My story offended you? Cool. Maybe my next one won't.
However, in the real world, I wouldn't expect everyone to be like me. There may be people who have lived in an environment where insults are normal. There are better ways to address such conflicts than calling for bans or suspensions. The reason I feel why SJWs make things worse is that they seem to make people weak. They usually want to convince minorities that all the problems they face happens to because of the majority and thereby instill minorities with a victim mentality. I do not believe in immediate bans for people making comments that are not so nice to hear. That kind of behaviour may fill some with more disdain towards certain groups. There are people among the gay community for instance who regularly use T word as insults for transgenders. SJW type of behaviour creates conflicts in such situation to the discontentment of all.
That said I agree with you all that Root was not being a raging SJW as was alleged by certain posters on a football forum. That said I wouldn't like to see any overreaction from ICC on this issue. They should go by their rules and not by public pressure. OKay, if the existing rules direct that Gabriel be banned for a few games then I am fine with it. But that is only if the already existing rules make it possible to ban him. Not because of public pressure. Public pressure/mob mentality is an extremely barbaric form of justice.
Re: Beliving that the word "Asians" represents insult. It's things like this that annoy me. This is where you instill hatred/victim mentality among the minorities. And all for not much.
