What are they doing that's so different though? I mean, the whole "let's all celebrate this movie as some monumental feat just because it stars a woman" thing is incredibly absurd, but that's not really Marvel doing that, is it? They announced that Captain Marvel will be the new face of the MCU. They never did that with any other character before. Normally the MCU just waits and sees how audiences react to characters and then they push the more favored ones into brighter spotlights. They never made an announcement that Ironman or Cap would be the faces of the MCU. They just did that after audiences reacted favorably to these characters. Announcing Captain Marvel to be the new face of the MCU puts a lot of pressure on Captain Marvel needing to be good. I mean, what happens if audiences hate the character? How will you make her into the new face of the MCU? Could you imagine what would have happened if the MCU announced that Malekith was going to be the new face of MCU villains? They also mentioned how she'll be the strongest hero in the MCU. Again, I don't recall them ever doing this with any hero before, they normally just show the movie and show how powerful the hero is in their movie. They don't make announcements like these with other heroes and it starts people whispering about "mary sues". Then now there's this. And while there's nothing wrong with what Brie Larson is doing in these press tours, a number of audiences don't like having political agendas mixed in with their fictional movies. Just saying, this movie is generating a lot of noise. Yeah, you're right. I forgot about those specific things. I think they're counting on it breaking records simply because the character is female, and honestly, they probably won't be disappointed. As our old pal Former Sam would say: it's got the ARTICIAL BOOSTERS!
