I agree. It's not without precedent: Raoul Walsh's 1945 Errol Flynn movie "Objective, Burma!" was withdrawn in the UK and not shown again for about 7 years because it gave the impression (again) that the US was the only country fighting in Burma. It may seem petty but some ex-army people take a dim few of this kind of thing (which still goes on today, see "Enigma"). I can see their point but it shouldn't be used to bash everything American. How exactly did "Objective Burma" give that impression? It's a movie about one unit of soldiers conducting one mission. No one ever said it was the entire war in Burma. I think "U-571' deserved British criticism over Americanizing the entire war against the Axis, but not this one. British review - link |
