Who's the kid they had in the minors last year who actually called the team out (was it Twitter?) about bringing him up? He was a beast and was tearing it up. Can't recall if he ever did get called up - but he was obliterating farm ball. Many said it was a bad look - I kind of appreciated it and thought it was rather b@llsy That would be Eloy Jimenez. He was mashing. Almost 1.000 OPS at age 21 in AAA. But there was no reason to bring him up in the last month of a losing season. That would have started the service time clock, and the Sox would have lost out on a year of control for nothing. The Phils went against the grain last year when Scott Kingery was in the same position. He tore it up last years Spring Training and the thought process was he'd get sent back down and called back up later in the season (i.e. - like you said to gain 1 more year of control). They gave him a contract and put him on the opening day roster. He was supposed to be Chase Utley v2.0. I'm not a Kapler hater like most - but it's the one thing I didn't like what he did - he didn't let Kingery become adjusted to any one position (i.e. 2nd) and he used the kid as a Swiss Army Knife just putting him in every position under the sun (he actually pitched) and every order in the batting lineup - I think it screwed with the kids head and he couldn't get accustomed to major league ball never knowing what to expect day to day and he had an abysmal season. Hoping he has a bounce back year this year.
