An established directing team are hired to make a film. One is male, one is female....and your instant assumption, with no evidence whatsoever is that only the guy was good enough to be hired and the woman stands by, like some supplicant wallflower and acts as a figurehead.  

Interesting that of the many, and more likely, scenarios involving those that were hired, this is the one you choose to believe.
