I did this when I wanted to show my little nephew Peter Jackson's King Kong. I toned down some of the violence. I also made a shortened edit of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" to show my niece. That movie is way too long. I forgot about that one. I edited my version too...took out the "native" scenes. To me, they were just not appealing and did not enhance the story in any meaningful way.
