I also like to get a little weird with it for experimentation's sake. For example, taking a scene and removing any segment with dialogue. This isn't my video, but it's a perfect example of what I'm talking about:
There's no audio removed, there's just a lot of pausing and little background music/sound so it's easy (and interesting at least to me) to do this.
There was this other guy, a researcher of some kind who did some other projects up this alley. His name escapes me (and the internet too apparently). Was back in the mid 90s when editing software was beginning to hit your standard home PC. There were a lot of weird projects coming out, but in particular, one guy isolated bits of the old show "Love Line."
For example he'd run all of the inhaling sounds of Dr. Drew consecutively (cutting everything else) with no in between. So it's like 2 straight minutes of a guy inhaling, no spaces between them. It was nauseating to listen to because you start to really want to hear that exhale. He did this (and many others) as some sort of psychological experiment for his PhD. I'll share it when I find it. It's a little strange, but interesting if nothing else.
